Who is Dr. Josh?
Dr. Joshua Stanley is a licensed mental health counselor, certified school counselor, and counselor educator whose career spans 14 years working in public schools, higher education, and private practice. He is a national board certified counselor and approved clinical supervisor who specializes in work with adults and couples, particularly young adults, professionals, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition to his private practice, he also serves in academic administration at Capella University. Prior, Dr. Stanley was dean of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences and School of Education, interim assistant dean for counselor education and family therapy, and department chair and full-time faculty in school counseling and addiction studies. Previously, he worked as the coordinator of high school intervention and transition services with the Tennessee Department of Education's division of special populations, as a secondary school counselor with Metro-Nashville Public Schools, and as an elementary school counselor with Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools.
Dr. Stanley has been active in the counseling profession and is a past president of both the Tennessee School Counselor Association and Middle Tennessee Counseling Association and former board member with the Florida School Counselor Association. He was previously recognized as school counselor of the year at both the regional and state levels. He regularly speaks at conferences and meetings with past presentations at the Florida School Counselor Association, the Tennessee Counseling Association, the Tennessee Licensed Professional Counselors' Association, the Kentucky School Counseling Association Annual Conference, and the Middle Tennessee Counseling Association, among others.
An alumnus of Austin Peay State University, Dr. Stanley earned both his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and Master of Science degree in counseling there. He completed his Doctor of Education degree in counselor education and supervision at Argosy University Nashville and completed post-graduate work leading to certification in educational leadership through Lipscomb University.
Currently, Dr. Stanley lives in Orlando, Florida, where he maintains a small private practice.
